Maternity Health Insurance Coverage

Saturday, October 25th, 2003

A woman naturally gets excited when she finds out that she is pregnant. In many cases, this happiness is soon diminished when the financial burden of having a child is realized. Thirteen percent of American women who become pregnant have no maternity insurance coverage. They face the risk of inadequate pre-natal care and must find their own resources for funding the cost. If the pregnancy is complicated, this adds to the burden.

Even those with insurance may find to their dismay that maternity is not covered. A costly add-on premium may be required. Some insurers do not offer maternity coverage or consider it a pre-existing health condition. This is illegal by Federal law, and there are several loopholes.

There are many group insurance plans that do provide maternity coverage as a service to members. There may be a waiting period of three months to one year before the clause becomes effective. What happens if one becomes pregnant during the waiting period? If you are carrying COBRA (extended (more...)

Health Insurance And The Role Of COBRA

Friday, October 24th, 2003

COBRA (The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, 1985) is a federal law designed to ensure that people can continue to receive health insurance coverage for up to 18 months following the termination of their employment.

The vast majority of companies which provide group health insurance cover for their employees are subject to the provisions of COBRA which, in certain circumstances, can cover former employees beyond the normal period and for up to 36 months.

In general terms COBRA will protect individuals from losing their health insurance benefits along with their employment but it should be understood that it is designed purely as a temporary measure to help people through what might otherwise be a difficult period. That said, the act does not provide cover in all circumstances and some employees will find that they do not qualify for cover when their employment ceases. People in an employer s scheme should therefore check with their employer, who should be conversant with the l (more...)

LeadZILLA: Best Annuity Lead Program?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2003

LeadZILLA, a direct mail annuity lead program, won the Readers Choice Award in a survey of independent annuity producers polled by Senior Market Advisor Magazine. But after thoroughly testing the system myself, do I see LeadZILLA as king of the jungle or a big bag of gas? I have invested thousands of my own dollars into LeadZILLA to generate leads for my own general agents to use, and I ve learned a few lessons along the way.

The numbers speak for themselves. My first mail drop was on September 23, 2005 and, as of this writing, I have used LeadZILLA continuously for the past fourteen months. I have mailed out 44,800 pieces in 224 drops and received 1,295 direct response cards back in the mail. This is a response rate of 2.89% and an average of 5.77 lead cards for each 200 piece drop.

The lead system s proprietor boasts an average of 6 lead cards returned for every 200-piece drop. My average of 5.77 cards is close enough that I m not going to snivel over the .23% difference. As we in the i (more...)
