Can I Afford Health Insurance?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

In light of today s health care costs, a better question would be, “Can I afford NOT to have health insurance?”. Indeed, medical expenses are a leading cause of bankruptcy in the US. A health insurance plan should be an essential part of any responsible financial plan, whether married or single. Even young, healthy adults should bear in mind that a single emergency room visit can cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars, and intensive care can cost thousands per day. And that s not even counting the costs of prescription drugs.

There are steps to take to minimize the expense of health insurance. Many employers offer health insurance as a benefit for employees. Rates for group health insurance such as this are usually lower than private insurance rates employers can negotiate better rates as a group. Labor and trade unions also may offer group health insurance for their members. Spouses and children can often be added to most employee health plan, though the rate will be higher. (more...)

Term Life Insurance With Return of Premium

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Term life insurance has always been known as a “pure insurance” because it is strictly paid upon death with no cash value if left unused. Term life insurance is relatively inexpensive for this very reason. You are paying for peace of mind and protection, knowing your family would be financially secure upon your untimely death. In the event that you are still alive at the end of your “term,” any premiums paid over the years are basically gone. Ultimately, you paid for something you did not end up needing. Those who are unhappy with that notion typically end up buying other types of life insurance such as permanent life or whole life insurances. Unlike term life insurance, these two options are “owned” and develop cash value over the years. You can even borrow against some of the policies if you have accrued enough credit.

The beauty of term life as opposed to permanent or whole life is of course the lower premiums. Cash value policy premiums are significantly more (more...)

How Are Insurance Premiums Determined? Find Out Here

Monday, May 30th, 2005

Some people have been wanting to know what determines the cost of life insurance premiums, so I thought I d take a few minutes and write an article about it. Basically, it all comes down to statistics. Not just any statistics, but the specifics of mortality rates for individuals of different age groups, men and women, in order to determine how much your premium payments are each month. It s really not all that complicated, but I ll give you a couple of examples.

Do you know how many legal forms have questions that ask you how old you are by checking one of the different age brackets? You know what I mean, you re between the ages of 20-25, 26-30, 31-35, ect. Well, insurance is figured similarly to age brackets just like this. The insurance companies look at how many males (example) died in a particular age group, over a certain period of time. This could be five, ten or more years. Normally, you ll begin to see a consistant pattern over a certain time frame and this gives the insurance companies a b (more...)

Motorcycle Cover — You and Your Bike

Monday, May 30th, 2005

Statistics say that 10,000 bikers in the UK cancel their insurance policies over the winter months every year.

Many bike owners will lock away their two wheels but unfortunately, even when locked in a garage, their bikes remain at risk.

Thieves are quite aware that many motorbikes are stored in garages over the winter months and over 600 bikes are stolen every month.

If you have cancelled your policy and your bike is stolen you cannot make a valid claim. However, it should be possible to reduce the cover, save money and still maintain the essential minimum cover against fire and theft over the winter.

An annoying feature of existing motorbike insurance policies is that discount bonuses are not able to be accumulated over time. You may be able to get some form of discount should you remain claim free for a certain period with the same insurer, but this is a rare occurrence.

There are a few types of motorcycle insurance policy, Specified Rider Policy, Specified Bike Policy (more...)

What You Must Know About Car Insurance Quotes

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

Getting car insurance quotes from as many insurance quotes sites remains the indisputable way of getting the most savings possible in car insurance. However, there are a few facts that you must bear in mind when going for these quotes…

1) Every online car insurance quotes service has sponsors or at least a sponsor. The results they return will be tailored to favor their sponsors. Does this mean they ll give you wrong information? NO! What it means is that they ll likely omit any company that offers a better price-value. This may be widely denied but I know if you use your commonsense you ll agree that no one will set up or sponsor a car insurance quotes site and then include a competitor that has a better price-value. The normal thing is that they ll add weaker competitors. And, I think it makes sense.

2) Because of the above reason and more, you must be prepared to get quotes from as many of these car insurance quotes sites as are relevant to your location and needs. That way you ll b (more...)
