6 Tips For Sorting Out Health Insurance Companies

Friday, June 30th, 2006

Anyone shopping for health insurance will soon find there are a whole lot of insurance companies out there that offer coverage. Sorting out health insurance companies to find the best possible coverage for the most reasonable rates can be the real trick in locating a good policy. It can, however, be done.

Those looking for coverage for themselves, their families or even their employees will need to take the task very seriously. It will take some time, but the investment of a few hours or even a few days can result in a policy that does what it s supposed to when it s needed. Slacking on the job can result in some major problems down the road.

Examining health insurance companies to find the best will require looking at:

* Policy options. This, of course, is a given. The types of policies offered, what they cover and what they don t can very often separate the best from the worst quite quickly. Whether it s individual coverage or family coverage required, most people want to get the be (more...)

US Healthcare - Finding Help and Resources

Friday, June 30th, 2006

The United States, like other countries provide both private and public health insurance, but there is far more private than public health care. It is the only industrialized country that does not have publicly mandated government-funded coverage for all citizens (apart from South Africa). At the same time however, health care expenditures in the US total over 15% of the GDP, which is greater than any other developed country.

Most people in the US obtain insurance through their employer or on their own. Unfortunately almost 17% of the population are uninsured and have to pay upfront which leads to delay in medical care, missed tests, treatments and follow-up. Almost 20% of the uninsured population is able to afford insurance, almost 25% are eligible for public coverage, and the rest (56%) need financial assistance (8.9% of the US population).

There are over 1000 private health insurance companies and most offer a fee-for-service insurance plan (with higher pr (more...)

Why Is Insurance Important?

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

About a year or so ago, a major consumer protection magazine reviewed books about personal finance written by the well-known gurus on the subject. The magazine found that the subject of insurance was hardly covered at all.

If you think about it, this is a strange failure on the authors parts. Without insurance the best laid financial plans can disappear in a moment of inattention or a puff of smoke. All you saved and invested can be gone in seconds.

Insurance is here to make sure an accident does not destroy you. It protects against fire, flood, theft and collision.

It will defend you if you injure someone in an accident.

It will allow your surviving family to carry on for a time without the income you produce and it will even replace that income if you become disabled.

Many people don t believe that a disaster will befall them. Or they want to spend the money on something that s more fun.

But as expensive as insurance may seem, and certain policies, like disabil (more...)

Critical Illness Insurance - How Critical Can You Get?

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

There s a new critical illness policy on the market which attempts to go some way with regard to sorting out the perplexity regarding exactly what is, and is not, covered when it comes to claiming on the policy.

Traditional critical illness policies tend to cover up to 35 listed medical conditions. Policyholders could become seriously ill with a condition that doesn t fall into the scope of the policy and find that their illness is not covered, whilst others may be diagnosed with a listed illness with a lower “grading” which is relatively easily treated, for which they get a full payout.
Because of this inequality, the Financial Services Authority is uneasy with regard to insurers failing to fully understand that cover is restricted to certain specific illnesses.

This new product is marketed by the Prudential, under the name of the Flexible Protection Plan, and is unusual in that it claims to cover an amazing 140 medical conditions. However, cover is based on the severity o (more...)

Cheap Online Car Insurance Quotes

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

The web has made getting auto insurance easy. However, did you know that even among the “competitive” rates and huge savings made possible by online auto insurance options there is what s termed as “cheap” online auto insurance quotes. However to obtain “cheap” quotes you need insights.

To find the cheapest auto insurance rate you must study the norms by which rates are computed and provide all the essential information to avail of all available discounts and concessions.

Take the time to find out the “cheapest” by shopping around, visit as many insurance directories as possible and ask for quotes from different companies as well as from the same company but from different avenues. Don t leave out the provider who covers you for medical and house insurance. Often if you avail many different kinds of insurance from a single insurance provider then you are most likely to be eligible for a lower rate.

Be wise and follow the tips given by in (more...)

Earthquake Insurance in California

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

As the water began to drain from New Orleans in 2005, we learned that most of the homeowners in New Orleans did not have flood insurance, since they were supposedly in “low risk” areas. The over 60% of homeowners will need to depend upon their own savings, and limited federal assistance, to rebuild New Orleans - at an uncalculated cost for homeowners and taxpayers.

Could that level of disaster, especially that level of uninsured disaster, happen in California? Less than 15% of California homeowners currently carry earthquake insurance, due to its high cost, the “can t happen to me or my house” factor, and mortgage providers not requiring coverage. The next big quake will result in billions of uninsured damage - but is earthquake insurance really worth the high cost?

How Did We Get Here?

The state of California requires that all homeowner s insurance providers to at least offer earthquake insurance (albeit, at a high cost). Until 1994, it was widely availab (more...)
