Health Coverage Keeping You In A Bad Job?

And it s this fear of losing health coverage that unfortunately keeps most individuals in jobs where they re not their most productive. Economists and employment experts call this phenomenon “job lock.” Various studies claim it could reduce job mobility by up to 25 percent.
A survey of employees by Hewitt Associates last year uncovered the fact that healthcare coverage is the most important benefit, outscoring compensation two to one. In addition, two-thirds of respondents said health coverage was a primary factor in their employment decision. The same two-thirds, who are under the age of 65, rely on their employer for health insurance.
