Affordable Health Insurance - A Daunting Task
Needless to say, health insurance is extremely important to all of us.
Unfortunately however, too many of us cannot afford health coverage and yet, the
primary cause of debt in this country is medical bills. If you are self-employed
or without the benefit of working for an employer who offers medical coverage,
then you no doubt know how difficult it can be to find coverage that you can
afford.
As someone who is considering starting my own business, I did a little research
and was staggered to learn how much health coverage can cost to buy on your own.
Despite being young, in good health and with no history of any major health
problems or surgeries, I have not been able to find health insurance that I can
afford. What I did find was that to have decent coverage I would have to spend
thousands of extra dollars a year which, like for most working people, would
stretch me beyond my means. I make enough to get by and provide for my family,
but I would find it truly difficult to come up with the kind of money that I
would need for good health coverage.
In my current situation, my employer provides a PPO health insurance plan. In
the past, I have been covered under HMO plans and I would never want to have to
go back to that. I have become used to certain options that I now would not want
to do without, and am afraid that I would be out of luck finding this type of
coverage on my own that I could afford. Unfortunately, the decision you are
faced with if you want to be able to see the doctors of your choice is whether
or not it is worth it to you. If that is what you really want, be prepared to pay
for such a luxury.
Finding affordable, individual health insurance for yourself and your family is
a daunting task. There are a few websites, however, that are quite helpful offering information about coverage options in any given area. If you are
willing to invest some time reviewing the different sites, you
just may be able to find health insurance you can afford. Much depends on your
medical history and the type of coverage you want. Just be forewarned that you
will need to divulge some rather personal information in the process, which you
may or may not be comfortable with.
A major advantage of using the web to find affordable health insurance, besides
the ability to compare rates from different companies, is the enormous amount of
time that you will save as compared to the time you would spend on the phone
talking with various providers. Either way, be prepared to invest some time in
what may be a frustrating and tiresome process, but one that is essential to
your very existence and that of your family. Taking care of your health and
theirs is the number one gift you can give to yourself and your loved ones. It s
also the best shot you have for staying around for a long time to come, to enjoy
all the wonderful things that life has to offer. And what could be more
important than that?
